Old Friends

I got a Facebook friend request the other day from an old classmate of mine, one whom I'd known since first grade on.  He used to sit right beside me in first grade--Mrs. Howard's class.  He is also the boy from whom I got my first kiss.

At the time, I didn't know that little white girls shouldn't be kissing little black boys.  (That 6 year old girls shouldn't really be kissing anyone was apparently lost on me as well.)

I didn't know then, that little white girls shouldn't be kissing little black boys.  I didn't figure that out until much later.  Wait, I still haven't figured that out, because let me tell you, if these lips ever showed up at my door...

Those puppies are going down...Mfmfmmm...

Ummm, What were we talking about?  Wait a minute....How did all that lipstick get on my screen?  Excuse me for a moment...*Where did those darn cleaning wipes go?*

OK, now, where were we?

Oh, yes.  My classmate.  Well, we got to chatting, and I asked him if he remembered that kiss. He said that boy did he ever!  He said it was the best kiss of his life.  He was surprised that I'd remembered.  Then he asked if I had ever been, or would ever consider getting involved with a black man.

I guess it's a good thing that no one in my family actually reads my blog, because I suspect that after this post, massive strokage would ensue.  I've actually had older members of my family tell me that God created the races and He intended for them to stay separate.

Funny, I can't seem to find that in my Bible.  My Bible says that God created one man and one woman.  The races...the divisions...the separation..

the hatred

all that came after sin entered the world.

So the answer to my friend's question would be yes.  I would consider it.  I feel that when someone comes along and he touches your soul so deeply

and makes your heart sing

and your spirit dance, even in the rain

and all you want is to be with him,

then none of that matters any more.  You don't see him as a black man, or an Asian man, or an Hispanic man, or whatever the case may be.  He is simply

the man you love.

And that's all that matters.

Now, let the strokes commence.

Ya know, I think that at the ripe old age of 6, you were much brighter than many, many people ever are. What better way to start off a new year, than by getting reaquainted with an old friend.... or, well, you never know. ;o)

Becky, go for it. As one coming from a white/black marriage, I can tell you the mixing of races never was a problem.

Thanks, y'all. Don't get me wrong. I was mostly speaking in general terms-- except for Marion Barber, of course. I really don't have any desire to get with my old schoolmate. Just from the few times I've talked with him, it sounds like he wants SERIOUS. And you know me. I don't do SERIOUS.
