I have transformed the first WIP into an FO!
It still needs blocked, but the Braided Cable Tam is finished.
I can strike one off of the list!
1. Charity scarf--simple garter stitch in Bernat Boa. For a cancer center.
2. Bubble Wrap sock: The yarn is Knit Picks Imagination in Pixie Dust, which I believe has been discontinued. I got the first one done, and the pair fell victim to Second Sock Syndrome.
3. Conwy sock: From the book Knitting On The Road by Nancy Bush. This one has not fallen victim to Second Sock Syndrome. I still haven't finished the first sock.
4. Traveling Roses Scarf: in Knit Picks Aloft in Blush. (I tried to find the link on the web, but apparently the PDF file has been taken down.)
5. Arwen Wrap: Designed by my friend Tabitha. This is the one the cat gakked up a hairball on. It got put aside after that. Good thing I'm using superwash yarn.
6. Hurricane Hat: I actually just started this one, so I almost didn't count it. But it is a WIP after all.
7. Sport Weight Sock: No pattern, just basic sock construction.
8. Garter Rib Scarf: This one has been my traveling project. I don't do a lot of traveling, which is why it is still not finished. But I'm ready to get it done now. The yarn is Knit Picks Imagination in Gingerbread House.
9. The 2010 Anniversary Mystery Shawl. Which I still haven't finished.
10. Followed closely by the 2011 Anniversary Mystery Shawl. I detect a pattern here...
11. A Sock: What you don't see here is that Jesse got ahold of the yarn cake and it is now a tangled mess. At this point, it's probably going to be easier to just rip and start over.
12. Fruit Of The Vine scarf: I think the yarn is Knitpicks Gloss Lace, but I'm not really sure. It was some I had left over from doing a larger project. Still, I think there is enough to make a good size scarf here.
13. Orkney Pi Shawl: In Knitpicks Shimmer in Spice. I actually paid for this pattern, so I'd better get this one done!+
14. Another Charity Scarf: This is yarn Kristen sent to me. The only name on the label is Dardo.
15. Braided Cable Tam: Completed!!
These next three are really more ongoing projects, so they don't really count as WIPs, but I'm showing you them anyway.
16. Leper bandage:
17 & 18. The two sock yarn blankies.
So, there is my first WIP update. I'm going to update at least once a week, or more often if I get something finished. I think it'll be fun watching the list get shorter and shorter. Of course, the temptation is to cast on something new the minute I get something finished, but hopefully, I'll be able to keep it under control. I will keep at least one hat going, though, so once I finish the hurricane hat, don't be surprised if you see me cast on a new hat.
It just has to be knit from stash yarn. No more buying.
For now.

Thanksgiving Eve
I got up early this morning--but not too early. Amazingly enough, the dog let me sleep until 6:30. And that, friends, is what I'm thankful for today. I was a chronic insomniac when I was a kid, though I didn't even know what that was back then. As I got older, I kind of grew out of it. But here lately, the insomnia seems to be creeping back in. I'm doing well to get 5 hours a night, so I'm very thankful for every little bit of sleep I get.
OK, where was I? Oh yes, I got up early and headed out to Wal-mart to try to beat the crowds. I almost did. The parking lot was pretty empty when I got there, but by the time I left, it was filling up fast. Overall, the trip was a success, even though I forgot the Cool Whip for the pumpkin pie. And I couldn't find a burrito. All they had were family packs, and I just wanted one.
Strange things happen to me. I was at work yesterday, and all of the sudden it hit me. I wanted a burrito. So I was going to buy myself a burrito, but all they had were family packs, and my freezer is full already and I still have to somehow fit leftovers from a 20 lb turkey in there.
Needless to say, I didn't get my burrito.
I did get all ready for tomorrow. The sweet potato casserole is mixed and ready to bake in the morning. I used to bake it ahead of time, but then I realized it took almost as long to reheat it as it did to bake it to begin with. Plus, the edges tended to burn when I did that. So now, I just wait until Thanksgiving Day.
I didn't do the broccoli casserole this year, because nobody but me eats it, and even I don't like it that much any more. Last year, I froze more than half of it and saved it until Christmas, and still ended up throwing a lot of it away. I just decided not to bother this year.
I did bother making the pumpkin pie.
And this, what could this be? A secret family recipe?
Naw, it's suet for the birds!
I just hope the birds find it in time. The last time I put out a suet cake, the ants found it and devoured it before I ever saw a bird eating from it.
On the knitting front, I cast on the Gingerbread House yarn. Finally.
I knew it wanted to be a hat and scarf set, but I just couldn't find a pattern. I recalled that I really liked how it was knitting up when I was making the sock out of it, so I just went with a plain garter rib. It'll make a nice scarf, and I ought to be able to figure out a hat pattern with no trouble.
Plus, the scarf can act as a s.... as a ssss... as a sww.....the scarf can act as a swww...swww..
*Deep breath*

Whew...
For some reason, one of my little paperwhites has shot up way taller than the other three.
It's even got a bud on it.
I guess that one got all the groceries.

It's Not Saturday
.
But it's felt like it all day, since I didn't have to work. I'm almost afraid that I'm going to try to get up and go to church in the morning! And since I didn't have to work, the first order of business was to take the Rotund One to the vet for her annual shots and checkup. We did talk about her weight, and the vet said I was right to be concerned. Obesity in dogs is just as harmful to their health as it is in humans. He said to keep her on the fat dog dog food, and keep walking her. The good news is, she has lost 8 lbs since I had her weighed last. I didn't think she had, because she still looks huge, but the scales don't lie. I think that was around the end of July. She weighed 60 lbs then, and today she weighed 52.
The other thing is that she doesn't have ear mites like I thought. She has yeast infection in her ears. I wonder how dogs get that. Katie got them, too. Anyway, he gave me some drops for that. She doesn't like them any better, but at least they'll really help her this time. He said I was doing a good job keeping her ears clean, and otherwise, she's in good health.
When I got home, there was a big, squishy envelope in my mail box. I opened it up straight away, and found yarn. Lots of yarn.
This was sent to me by buddy Kristen, to make scarves for Scarves From The Heart. Speaking of, I finished the one I'd been working on.
And am about to cast on another. I'd almost forgotten how much fun these little scarves are. And quick. I guess that's why I like doing them. I can get a lot done and sent in in a short amount of time.
Rylea says, "Why'd you have to go and tell them how much I weigh?"
"I'm so embarrassed!"
