Eye Candy Friday

A couple of zinnias from my garden for your eye candy Friday.

And yes, today really is Friday.  And yes, I did remember to go to work, and yes, the very first order I got I had to put an adapter tube back in for a rework because it was done incorrectly -- by someone who didn't do a first piece inspection like Group Leader Shark tells us to every single morning.

But the good news is, I am off now and have a three day weekend ahead of me.  I know it will go fast, but I'm going to enjoy every minute of it that I can.  Except that it's supposed to rain all weekend...and all next week.

It would seem we're getting a year's worth of rain in just a few days.  We've gotten nearly 4" of rain during the month of May, and 3.15 of those inches has come in the last three days.  Never the less, I managed to run out and get my Thyme into the raid bed between showers.

Before I left work, one of my friends asked me what I was going to do over the weekend.  I'd thought about maybe running up to Batesville, but let's be real.  I may talk a big game, but I'll most likely spend the weekend sitting in front of the TV, especially if it's raining.

I might even get some knitting time in.  I'll let you know how that goes.

Eye Candy Friday

There I was, laying in bed snoozing away when I heard the tell tale ding of my phone...

Cody and Brennan have finally moved out of that horrible house they'd been renting for the last three years.  And I'm telling you, it was awful.  Chilly and damp, and the floors were rotten so bad in spots, I thought I was going to fall through a couple of times.  They've moved into an apartment, and Cody messaged me a couple of days ago asking if they could bring me a rocking chair.

They didn't have room for it, and Brennan didn't want to get rid of it, so I'm getting a new to me rocking chair, at least until they find a bigger place.  And the ding I heard on my phone last night was my beloved son in whom I am not so well pleased at the moment texting me at 10:38 PM letting me know they were going to bring the chair next weekend.

I said I was going to text him back at 3:30 when I got up for work, but I forgot to.  Lucky him.

So, anyway, after that I couldn't get back to sleep, so naturally, I picked up my phone and scrolled through Facebook until I got to the end.  Seriously.  I got to the end of Facebook.

It wouldn't let me scroll any more, and it wouldn't let me refresh, either.  I'm like, Dude, just show me stuff from six weeks ago, like you normally do.  I eventually fell back to sleep, but all of that made it a mighty short night.

Then, we had a little excitement out at the plant.  I walked over to the computer to confirm an order and one of the parts stagers asked me who had gotten into a fight.

"Fight?  This is the first I've heard about a fight."  She said that another employee had heard about it on her radio, so I tracked that employee down and asked her.  She told me two forklift drivers had gotten into a fight in the parking lot.  Wow.

One of the other sub brazer's husband drives a fork lift so I told her to ask him if he knew what was going on.  A bit later, she came over to my stand and told me that it was two new guys who were supposed to be going to second shift next week.  So new, her husband didn't even know their names.

Then one of the brazing trainers came in and said that when the security guards called the police, one of the guys took off walking down the road and made it about 1/2 mile before the cops showed up.  That's all I know, except that the whole time, I had this image in my mind of them fighting with their forklifts like they were on bumper cars or something...

And finally, I remembered your Eye Candy Friday today!

Yay for me and for clover.

Gloomy Saturday Sky

Back in the day when blogging was a much bigger thing, one of the blogs I followed -- I can't even remember which one -- started a thing called Saturday Sky.  She said, "We all live under the same sky," and thought it would be fun for everyone in her blog circle to photograph and post what the sky looked like where we lived.

As the blogosphere shrank, things like that fell out of favor, and eventually I stopped doing it.  Until today.  This is what my sky looked like all day long.

We are expecting storms, but no severe weather -- at least not down here.  My friends who live in Michigan and Wisconsin are getting hit pretty hard, but we haven't had much at all this year.  I'm seriously considering de-safefying my safe room.

Even with the looming sky, I was able to get the last of my plants safely tucked into their beds before the rain started.

I measured where I want to put my tomato plants, and set them there, though I didn't plant them yet.  They're still too small.  Just to be on the safe side, I covered each one with a Walmart sack.  They're saying we could get some heavy rain, and I didn't want my little seedlings to get pounded into mush.

Once I'd set those into place, I managed to fit six basil plants in this bed, and put a marigold at the foot of where those tomatoes will eventually go once they're big enough.   I had a few basil plants left over, so I fit them into the raised bed where I'd put the others.

Two of the smaller ones seem to have died, so I pulled them out and replaced them with these bigger ones.  I ought to have plenty of basil, but I don't know what I'm going to do with it.  I have plenty of pesto from last year still in the freezer.  I keep forgetting that I have it, which I shouldn't do because it's delicious.

Back to the garden, I had planned on putting a pineapple sage in the other half of this bed, but now that will have to wait until next year, because I had three more cayenne peppers that needed a home.  Two of them went here.

and the other one went here -- where my second lemon balm was meant to go.  That will also have to wait until next year.

Oh well, it's all part of the learning process.  Maybe by next year, I'll be more organized.  Maybe next year, I'll start my own pepper seeds, too.  Anyway, everything is now planted and my little garden is done for this year.

I'd debated on whether to give everything a good watering before I came inside, because we are supposed to get some rain this evening.  In the end, I did water because I figured with my luck, the rain would go all around me and we wouldn't get but a trace.   It's still early as I type this, but so far we haven't gotten anything but sprinkles.

While I was out there, I noticed that sure enough, the little peppers that looked almost dead yesterday have perked right up after a night without the harsh southern sun.

The seed packet said 6+ hours of full sun, but the way they droop in the afternoons makes me wonder.  I'm hoping that once they grow a bit more and develop a stronger root structure, they'll be better able to handle it.

It looks like my French Tarragon is ready for its first harvest.

I might cut some in the morning and hang it to dry.

You know what's sad?  I'd cut and hung some herbs last year, but got so depressed after what that land scammer did, they're still hanging.  Maybe when I'm done here, I'll take them down and put them into some ziplock bags.  That way, my hangers will be ready for this year's herbs.

OK, moving right along.  I finished piddling in the garden, then came inside and between bits of housework, I knit on my newest sailor hat while watching The Great Pottery Throwdown Christmas special on Roku Channel.

And in piano news, I decided to go ahead and pick the Faber course back up, even though I'm still learning the last three pieces in the Alfred's course.

I'd thought I would go back to the beginning and start over, but when I pulled the book back out, I realized I was more than halfway through.  So, I scrapped that idea pretty quickly.  I've also decided I'm not going to watch Mr. Let's Play Piano Methods videos for this book any more.  I've noticed that for the most part, all he does is change the fingering, because he doesn't like the fingering the books use.  The really funny...or sad...part is that his fingering is usually more complicated than what the book uses.

The Faber book has QR codes you can scan and it'll take you to a video of Mr. Faber playing the piece, so you can at least know what it's supposed to sound like, so I'll just go with that.

And finally, I'd intended to post an Eye Candy Friday yesterday, but I completely forgot so I'm posting it today.  Here you go:

Now, if you'll excuse me, I just found Lark Rise To Candleford on Roku Channel, and I need to watch it.

Eye Candy Friday

Back in the day, when blogging used to be much more widespread, Eye Candy Friday was a big thing.  I really enjoyed seeing the photos different bloggers posted of things that were pleasant to look at.  It's kind of fallen by the wayside, though.  Only one of the blogs I follow still does it.

I'm a might tuckered today, and don't really have much to share with you, so I thought I'd do an Eye Candy Friday this week.  Here, for your viewing pleasure is my bluebonnet bed.

Like I said earlier, there's not much to report.  I finally got all of the red clay out of  my raised bed,

but once I got done with that, I was too tired to start filling it up or even to put together the other bed.  Those will be my projects for tomorrow, along with getting the hummingbird feeders filled and put out.  I think when I put the second bed together, now that I know how thick that layer of clay is, I'll skip the stirrup hoe and start with the shovel.

I tried to sit in my chair for a little while, but the mosquitoes found me pretty quickly, so I came inside and took a shower.  Then I sat down and watched Sidekicks in memory of Chuck Norris.

By the way, I received confirmation today that Inspector Gadget will be in the assembly area for the foreseeable future.  One of the supervisors back there is leaving and IG will take his place.  Sucks for them.

He he he...

Eye Candy Friday

Today is another one of those days.  I sat down to blog and....nope, I got nothing.  So you get nothing....except this lovely marigold.

Eye Candy Friday

It's been a while since I've done one of these posts, but here you go.

Supervisor Ronny has to pass by the lake on his way to work.  No, I don't know where he lives, and I wouldn't tell you if I did.  I'm already invading his privacy enough just by sharing this.

Anyway, he drives by the lake on his way to work, and every so often, he'll stop and take a picture of the sunrise.  This is the one he posted yesterday, which I shamelessly stole from his Facebook page.

My apologies, Ronny, but this one was too beautiful not to share.

Eye Candy Friday

Literally, eye candy.

I had to hurry up and take the picture, because I've almost eaten it all up already.  And I just bought it yesterday.  Oh, and Snickerdoodle flavored milk isn't nearly as good as it sounds.

I have a house guest for the next few days.

Yes, I am kitty sitting for a while.  I've cat sat for her before, but this time, she came to my house.  Her people have one of those fancy schmancy alarm systems-- the monitored kind with someone sitting on the other end of the computer watching the house.  They tried to leave her home once, and she kept setting the alarm off.  After the third time the cops showed up at the house, they realized they had to do something different.  They tried bringing her with them, but the trip was very difficult for her.

Thus, she came to my house.  Why is this significant?  Because this morning, you could barely walk into this room.

It didn't take long to tidy it up.  I just took my painting supplies out to the shed, put the books on the shelves, and stuffed everything else in the closet.  Voila!  Clean room.  It's all ready to move Cody's furniture into it.

I was, however, rather dismayed at how many large dead spiders I found in the room.  I mean, very large spiders.  I'm not given to arachnophobia, but I do have my limits.

I'm just glad they were already dead when I found them.

Eye Candy Friday

I don't care what the calendar says, or what the temperature is, or about that equinox thing, when the Candy Corn hits the stores, it's FALL.

The bank finally called, requesting the last bit of information needed to close on my house.  It's time to get the ball rolling!

Eye Candy Friday

It has been so very hot in the plant.  Some of the air conditioning units have been down, and the temps have been hitting the upper 90s to low 100s, depending on where you work.  On the day it hit 100 at my work station, I took a picture of my thermometer and printed out a sign that says, "Nothing says ADP CARES like triple digit temps."  It was a big hit.  Even Supervisor Calvin laughed, and he never laughs at anything.

While I was sweltering, I got a text from my realtor.  She has someone who might be interested in buying my trailer.  She's looking for one to move out to her mother's land, so that would be great.  When I got home, I called the mortgage company to see what my payout would be, then I called the realtor, and gave her all the info.  We also talked about some more houses we are going to go look at Monday after work.

Next step is getting my trailer house cleaned out and cleaned up. I tracked down the guy who owns the mini-storage on my road, and rented one.  I already started moving some stuff down there, and will move some more tomorrow.  The biggest thing will be getting the cat's room cleaned up.  It's pretty nasty in there, but a good shampooing ought to take care of that.

And, of course, Cody's old room, which has become storage.  I've got some good sized boxes that we are going to shove stuff into and haul down to the storage room.

Now, for the fun stuff.  One of my friends had mentioned that she was thinking about buying a Spindolyn.  Since I had decided that I didn't really like mine, I packed it up and sent it to her.  In return, she sent me tons and tons of fiber to spin.

Now, I just have to get good at spinning.

Eye Candy Friday

I got an unexpected day off of work today.  Seems that three of our air compressors had burned out.  Since most of our equipment runs on pneumatic pressure, we couldn't run any of it without air pressure.  We cleaned, and we cleaned, and we cleaned, and we cleaned so much I felt like I was back in the Navy.

Finally they decided that they weren't going to get them fixed any time soon, so they let us all go.  Except me, because Group Leader Fernando came running up to me at the last minute saying, "Can you braze this order up before you leave?"

This is the second day in a row he's done that to me.  I do declare...

So, Cody and I ran and did our shopping, and now I'm comfortably settled in watching Netflix and Spindolyning.

While at the store, I bought four new plants for my flower bed.  I got another zinnia and another marigold.  They look just like these, so I didn't take another picture of them.

Oops, I didn't take a picture of the zinnias, but as it's pouring rain at the moment, you'll just have to wait.  I did get a few pictures of some of my other flowers.  I took these yesterday:

Cosmos

More Cosmos

Not sure what this is.

I think this is another variety of cosmos.  I'll know for sure when the blooms open.

I can't wait!

I keep running out to look at them, as if it will make them grow faster.

Eye Candy Friday

A few months ago, I posted about this psycho who had just started working on my line.  For those who don't want to go read that whole post, I'll just recap a bit.  I was minding my own business, working away, when the psycho walked up and started cursing me for having an attitude.

Well, in the intervening months, she has -- to put it into the local vernacular-- got into it with everyone at the front of that line.  So much so that nobody wants to speak to her.  In some cruel twist of irony, or karma, or something, she is now trying to buddy up with me, because I'm the only one who will actually talk to her.

They announced that we will be working 3 day work weeks for the next two weeks, then we'll be off until January 5th.  So, this girl was asking me what I was planning on doing over my long weekend.  And she asked me if I'd changed my hair color, because she remembered it being lighter.  When she has a question about work, she has to ask me, because I'm the only one who will answer her.  I think it's so funny that the one with the (bleeping) attitude is the only one who will pay any attention to her now.

Well, you reap what you sow...

I'm trying to be nice to her, because I know that before I figured out I was an introvert, and that it's OK to be one, I was hard to get along with.   Trying to force myself to be sociable was exhausting, and it made me short tempered and irritable. For a long time, I thought I was just a horrible, mean person.  Now that I know that when I start getting cranky it's time to go be by myself for a while, I'm much better in social situations.

Long story short, I know what it's like to be the one nobody likes, so I'm trying to cut the girl a little slack.

Moving right along, I have broken my self imposed moratorium on buying yarn.  Someone requested a scarf in a specific color, so I had to order a skein of it.  Since it's not really cost effective to pay shipping on just one skein of yarn, I tossed a couple more into my shopping basket.  Now I just have to finish the scarf that is already on the loom so I can start this other one.

In the meantime, let's just look at my Christmas cactus:

Isn't it loverly?

Eye Candy Friday

For the last several years, I've bought coffee for service members overseas through Green Beans Coffee's Cup Of Joe program.  Every so often, they have specials.  If you buy a certain amount of coffee, they send you a think you gift.   In the past, I've gotten t-shirts and challenge coins.  Right now, they are offering this enameled dog tag.  I got mine yesterday.

Even better than the little trinkets are the thank you notes I get from the recipients themselves.

Thanks for the Cup of Joe. A great pick me up on the far side of the world.

Becky, thank you. I really appreciate the kindness and generosity. Best regards from Bagram Airfield, Afghanistan. Army Strong!

Thank you very much for your support! Even if it's a small gift like this, it sure brightens up our day! Several airmen and soldiers under me all sign up for COJ, and they look forward every day to getting a COJ. And when they do, they light up and look forward to take a small break and enjoying a nice cup of coffee or tea. And I look forward to going with them! Again Thanks!

Knowing I was able to make their day a little brighter makes it all worth it.  In fact, I think I'll go buy another round.

Eye Candy Friday

Look, y'all!  Cody got me roses for Mother's Day.

Except about a week late, and he doesn't know it.  And I paid for them.

But he got me roses!
