So the Big-12 conference seemed to be saying to the Texas Longhorns by announcing that Oklahoma, and not Texas, would be representing the Big-12 South in the conference championship next Saturday.
The Texas Longhorns and their fans will instead have to watch a team that they defeated 45-35 in regular season play contend for the Big-12 trophy. Their opponent will be the University of Missouri, whom (guess what) also lost to Texas in regular season play by a score of 56-31.
Two teams, both of whom LOST to Texas, will be playing for the conference championship, while Texas, who DEFEATED both teams, will be on the outside looking in. It's enough to make you want to puke.
If Oklahoma defeats Missouri, and I have no doubt that they will, they will probably go on to play for the BCS National Championship, an opportunity they did not earn and do not deserve.
Bend over, Texas. You're taking this one right up the butt.

You make some good points for UT to be in the playoffs rather than OU. Personally I no longer have a dog in the fight. You also seemed to think that TT’s victory over UT was a fluke, and maybe it was, but there are lots of people out there who think that UT’s victory over OU was also a fluke. You called OU”s chance to play in the championship, “an opportunity they did not earn and do not deserve.” I think that is a bit strong. OU is a heck of a team that seems to have been caught off-guard by UT, but has come on strong since then. OU lost to UT, which you would say was a really strong team, but UT lost to TT, which you seem to think is not such a good team. There in is the reason others also feel OU deserves the chance to play in the championship.
Maybe you're dead right, maybe not quite, but this seems like a fine example of reason #1 I refuse to give a fig about college football until they completely revamp their ranking system.
Lou, frankly, you are the only one I've ever heard say UT's victory over OU was a fluke. When you get beat by multiple possessions, it is not a fluke. They just got beat, and that's the end of it.
Now you argue that OU has been playing well since then, but you know what? UT has been playing well since losing to TT. I'd say UT has been playing better. They have much better defense. OU gives up an average of 30 points per game. You can't always rely on your offense to score more points than your defense gives up. Sooner or later those 30 points are going to come back and bite you in the ***. It did on that day. (UT gives up an average of 19 points per game.)
No, they do not deserve to play in the championship because they lost. Think of it like this, New York beat Dallas last year in the NFL playoffs, but Roger Goodell thinks Dallas is "prettier" than NY (which would never happen since Goodell HATES Dallas) so he lets them advance to the Super Bowl anyway. Would that be fair? No. They LOST. Because they LOST, they did not deserve to be in the Superbowl. It's the same situation here--OU LOST, so they do not deserve to advance.
I am not the only one who thinks TT is not such a good team. After they lost to OU, TT dropped 5 spots in the polls. FIVE. When Texas lost to them, they only dropped two. Now, one could argue that TT should be playing in the championship because UT lost to them. TT did not beat UT, but rather UT beat themselves with stupid mistakes, and playing much poorly than they normally do. If UT had showed up for the entire game, not just the second half, the score of that game would have been closer to the way it was in the OU/TT game. TT did not play exceptionally well against UT, rather UT played exceptionally poorly. Still, had TT not dropped so far down in the polls, they probably would have been in contention. Maybe they would have advanced to the championship. I could have lived with that. UT would have at least had to give way to a team they lost to. The way it is now, UT is having to watch two teams they DEFEATED play in the championship. No one outside of self contained, egotistical world that is centered around Norman, OK thinks that there is anything remotely fair about this--even non UT fans.
Sus, I am remembering why I dislike college ball so much! I much prefer the NFL where all that matters are the Ws and the Ls. No style points. No emotional involvement. No secret ballots promoting hidden agendas. Just wins and losses.
