It's Raining Again

It rained again for the second time this week! A hard rain, too, that lasted about 3 hours. I know, the slow steady kind would have been better, but any rain is better than none!

There was even standing water in my yard, which is once again showing a bit of green.

Blogger is acting wierd again, and not letting me upload photos, so I direct linked these from my Photobucket album. It's always good to have a plan B.

With school starting up again, the subject of bullying seems to be a popular one here lately. Cindy and Lou both posted on similar topics, and both are worth a read. Cody doesn't have too much trouble with bullies at school. On the bus is a totally different story. Unfortunately, the school seems to take the postition that a fight isn't a fight until the second kid hits back. So he is the one who gets in trouble. This is why Cody is picked on so much. It's not that he can't defend himself, though how a 12 year old is supposed to successfully stand up to a 16 year old is a bit beyond me. It's that he doesn't want to get suspended from school. We are going to keep a close eye on things this year, along with written records of whatever happens, and you can be sure I will be in touch with Mr. Brewer.

Just a funny story: Northern NM is predominately Hispanic. In my day, the ratio was probably about 98% Hispanic to 2% other. The "other" had a really difficult time in school - especially the boys. A friend of ours told us he got beat up every day on the bus and the school would not do anything. Then one day his mother met the bus driver and told him that she was coming after him if anything happened to her son on the bus again. Our friend said that he never had anymore problems on the bus.

Also, my dad was an elementary principal. At the end of the school day as each bus drove off, he would stand there and wave with his paddle - just a reminder of what would happen if anyone caused problems on the bus.

That works, too. Cody had a horrible time on the bus last year, until I called the driver's boss and told what was happening. I also told him that the bus driver didn't like Cody and so he turned his head while all this was going on. The rest of the year, we didn't have any problems.
