Years ago, I often got into disagreements with a former blog reader over how he viewed women. He would insist that there was nothing wrong with pornographic magazines. He even insisted that rags like Playboy, Penthouse, and Hustler weren't pornography at all. There was nothing wrong with "admiring a woman's beauty", he insisted. And he'd get rather irate at bluenoses and prudes who wanted to restrict or ban such smut.
That's what he called those of us who insisted women should be treated with dignity and respect.
I got the distinct impression that he considered women as mere objects to be leered at and lusted after-- and so used accordingly.
Now a scientific study has confirmed what I insisted all along:
With the increasing objectification of women in our society, it's our job as parents to teach our daughters that they are more than this. That they deserve to be treated better than this. We need to teach them what it means to be real women.
And we need to teach our sons that women are not tools for them to use, but are precious and beautiful things who deserve to be respected and cherished. We need to teach them what it means to be real men.
These days, that's getting harder and harder to do.

You are so right! Parents, please teach your children well.
That was really interesting and a good lesson. Modesty is something we teach our young girls and our young men at our church. Sensuality is a whole different lesson. There are some women who are very sensual no matter what they wear.
