Number One

The #1 all time Cowboy is

Roger Staubach!

Now, a lot of folks, especially the younger generations, think that #1 should be Troy Aikman. After all, he won more Super Bowls. Or maybe Emmitt Smith. After all, he is the NFL's all time leading rusher.

But no, this honor rightly goes to Roger. Back in those early days, when the team was struggling--taking its first baby steps into the highly competitive world of professional football, it was Roger who helped shape the identity of the Dallas Cowboys. He was the original Mr. Clutch, the Comeback Kid, Captain of America's Team. Roger the Dodger.

Even the lexicon of football--from the pros all the way down to pee wee league--changed because of Roger Staubach. Don't believe me? Ever heard these two words:

Hail Mary

Yep, that was Roger. Roger to Drew, in fact, to seal yet another one of his last minute, come from behind victories.

For 11 years, he was the face of the Cowboys organization. But more than that, he was the embodiment of the entire future of the team. He shaped its identity. He shaped its destiny. For this reason, above all others he truly deserves the honor of being the

#1 All Time Dallas Cowboy.

Thank you, Roger.
