For those of you who don't know, the place I work is closely tied to the housing market. With the economy the way it is, we've had a rough couple of years. We've worked 4 days a week for about half the year for the last three years.
Today, they called a meeting for both shifts, and announced a major shake up. They have decided to combine the two shifts into one, and only run day shift. This will be a long term change, until the economy picks up. In order to do this, they had to lay off 49 people. Fortunately, I was not one of them.
What it means is that for the rest of us, we will be able to get more 5 day work weeks than we would have otherwise. Sucks for those 49 people, but it'll be better in the long term to ensure that the plant is able to stay in business.

It is always hard to be part of the shake up but I am glad that your job survived!
Thank the Lord! Someone Up Above has certainly been looking out for everyone in your household lately, Bec.
Remember to say a prayer for the 49 tonight; now is a very sucky time to be out of work. *sigh*
I agree with Patch...happy for you...praying for the 49 who were no so fortunate.
I'm so glad things worked out for you! How stressful. Sounds like the company made a tough decision but did the right thing to keep business going. Hang in there!
Thanks, everyone. Yeah, I really feel for those who lost their jobs, but as I had to explain umpteen times yesterday, it's a business, not a charity. They could have kept everyone on the payroll, and we could have all ended up losing our jobs. Can't pay out when nothing's coming in.
