Blahs

I'm back!

I've been doing pretty good at blogging so far this year, but sometimes you just need a break.  Seriously, there hasn't really been anything happening worth blogging about, not to mention I'm right in the middle of a case of winter blahs, and yes, it's raining again.   I'm trying really hard not to complain because most of the state is still under some level of drought, but I'm ready for some sunshine and warm weather -- when I will then complain about the heat.

I was debating on whether to go up to Batesville yesterday and walk the trails at the Mounds, but I didn't.  Well, I was going to go see if they had any sweat jackets on clearance at their Walmart, since I didn't see any at our Walmart.  Walking the trails would have been a bonus.  I ended up ordering a jacket from Amazon, and staying home.  I'd said I'd go into town and walk the trails at the Lee Tartt Nature Preserve, but then it started raining before I managed to get myself down there, so that didn't happen either.

In the end, all I did was sit in front of the TV and knit.  And what exactly did I knit?  Well, I'll tell you.  I finally finished this headband.

It's just a simple K2P2 ribbing, and ended up being right at 4" wide.  I'd said I was going to knit until I ran out of yarn, and I'd say I got pretty close.  This is all the yarn I had left.  Cat included for scale.

And because she wouldn't get out of the chair.  But mostly for scale.

Then I cast on and knit another hat.

This one is definitely going into the charity drawer, probably to be sent to the Seaman's Church Institute next fall.  Then I cast on another one, again for the charity drawer.

I'm done knitting hats for people at work.  The other day -- I think it was Thursday-- someone I don't even know approached me and asked what my name was.

I told her and she just started gushing and fawning over the hat I'd knit for one of the brazers, and I'm smiling and thanking her, but silently thinking, "No, I'm not going to knit you one."  I'm sure that's what she was doing, schmoozing for me to knit her one for free.  You know what they say about hindsight, and if I'd known a year ago what I know now, I'd have never taken that box of hats and scarves up there.

Speaking of work, I put in for a vacation day for April 8, and it was approved the very next day.  What a weight off our shoulders not to have to nag and badger and argue with a supervisor to get a day approved.  Company policy is if the day is available, the supervisor is supposed to approve it, no questions asked.  Old supervisor didn't do that.  It was a battle with him to get our days approved, and if he didn't feel we had a good enough reason, he'd often deny the day.  Even if he didn't, he gripe and complain about us taking our days.  I'm so glad that mess is over!

But anyway, I took the day of the eclipse off, but haven't decided if I'm going to try to drive to Missouri to see it, or just watch it here.  I'm not in the path of totality, but it still ought to be pretty good coverage.  What I'm thinking is, I can drive up to Memphis on Sunday, go to the zoo, then spend the night there and drive on up to Missouri Monday morning.  It's only about a 2 hour drive.  Then after the eclipse, I'll just drive straight home and go back to work on Tuesday.

I reckon I'd ought to look for a hotel, too.  Oh, and I'll need to remember to order some eclipse glasses, too.

And finally, Supervisor told us Friday that he'd put in the MTO to get the conveyors where we put our finished work moved closer and lowered a bit.  He said they asked him why, and he said, "It doesn't matter why.  I want it done."

That's more back bone than Old Supervisor ever showed.  Now if maintenance actually does it, that remains to be seen.

This time of year is rough, thanks to those winter blahs. Though sometimes you just need to sit and veg.

My area is probably in drought conditions. Last year we got so much snow. This year we have received maybe 17 inches so far.

That's so nice you got your day off without a hassle. I'd love to see the solar eclipse but every day there's an eclipse the sky is overcast.

Maintenance people, I have learned, have little power trips, so I hope they don't give too much grief about this.
