Seriously? Can we be done with this weather now? I mean, I love these guys, but I'm getting a little tired of their company.
That guy in the middle is Gabe. He works with Matt Laubhan up at the station in Tupelo. They did a good deal of their broadcast with tornado sirens blaring in the background. I had to mute the computer a couple of times to make sure they weren't the ones here going off, even though I know good and well that there are no sirens I can hear from my house.
Even so, the cat and I did spend some time in the safe space,
thanks to this little beauty that passed just to the north of me.
This photo was taken at the Papermill Road exit, for you local folks, and looks like it was taken from the Dollar General parking lot, across the road from Mr. Monroe's gas station. The sheriff posted it on their page, but I don't know who actually took it. The photo was picked up by a news site and 'Shopped just a bit to make it more ominous, but still, it's pretty cool.
Funny thing, I had just posted about needing to prep my safe space when the warning went off. I hadn't even had time to publish the links to all my social medias - not to mention do the actual prepping, but we made it through. Once that had passed, we were pretty much in the clear for the rest of the night. As far as tornadoes go, I mean. We still had some pretty bad thunderstorms and a lot of rain. I'm talking about this much:
That is a 3 gallon bucket which was slap empty yesterday. I'm not sure what the official total was, though. I haven't heard anything about it.
This morning, I woke up to a message that the power was out at my house, only it wasn't. I know it was out in the area, but not quite to my road, which was the weirdest thing, because I thought my road was at the end of the circuit. Along about 11:15, the power did go out, but it only lasted just over an hour. I suppose they'd had to cut it off to repair whatever had been damaged in the storm. I had to laugh when they sent the e-mail saying the reason for the outage was under investigation.
I'm no expert, but it might just have had something to do with those storms that went through here yesterday.
Anyway, I took advantage of the down time and the rain softened ground to go dig up a few more clumps of wild garlic. I've discovered that the odds of my hair becoming completely out of control and flying into my face or my mouth are directly proportional to how mucky my hands are at the time.
Once my back and legs were thoroughly sore and achy, I came back inside and read another chapter in the Ship Of Brides book. I'm really struggling with that one. It's ok, but not great, and not captivating me. Part of me wants to quit reading it, but the other part says I'm halfway done, so I might as well finish.
When the electricity finally came back on shortly after noon, the internet was back with it, so I turned on the TV and caught up on some of my DVRed shows that I hadn't been watching because I've been watching Ryan Hall all week. Thank goodness, these storms are almost over...They still need to get through Alabama, Georgia, and The Carolinas, but still, we are beginning to see the light at the end of the tunnel, and what a ride it has been.
One of the meteorologists I follow posted this graphic this morning of all the warnings that have been issued over the last five days.
Oh, and I just remembered, my friend Marcy has a new Flosstube up that I haven't watched yet. I'd better get right on that.
Laters.
