Dang It!

I'd made myself a whole list of things I was going to do on my weekend off, and the first thing on that list was to sleep past 3:30 AM

The first thing I did not do was sleep past 3:30 AM.

I'd shut the alarm on my clock radio -- yes, I still have one-- off, but don't usually fool with the one on my  phone, so when it went off, I quickly silenced it, then laid back down in the bed to try to go back to sleep.  Alas, the cat had heard the alarm and knew that meant to come stand outside my bedroom door and yowl until I got up.

So, up at 3:30 I got.  I answered nature, let the cat in, then got back into bed once more, whereupon the cat proceeded to walk all over my head, knead on all of the pillows, jump down and sharpen her claws on the carpet, then jump back onto the bed and knock everything off of my nightstand.

And I was left wondering where that sweet snuggly little kitty from a few weeks ago went.

Shortly after 4:00, I gave up and got up.  I fed the cat, made some coffee, and settled in to get my to-do list done.

OK, truth is, I knew it was supposed to rain all weekend, and indeed early this afternoon, the sky got so dark I thought it was night, so I didn't have too many plans on my list.  I did want to start cleaning snake tanks, but when our local Walmart remodeled, they decided they would no longer carry small animal bedding.  I have enough to do maybe two tanks, but I'll have to order some to do the rest.

I keep saying I'm going to go to Tractor Supply to see if they have any, but so far, I haven't made it out that way.

What I did instead was watch a lot of TV and finish the hat I was working on.

I like the way the yarn knit up, and it's surprisingly soft for Red Heart -- and I haven't even washed it yet.

As soon as I finished, I cast on a hat with the second colorway I'd bought, Rainbow.  Appropriate for a day like today, eh?  Alas, I hadn't even finished casting on when I discovered a knot in the yarn.

Since it was so close to the beginning, I just cut it off and started over, tossing the little bit of yarn I'd already used into the trash.

This time, I just used a simple knitted on cast-on instead of the Chinese Waitress.  Honestly, I don't know why this cast on isn't more popular.  It's simple, stretchy, and easy to do.  As of this writing, I've gotten the ribbing done and as soon as I've published, I'll switch to stockinette for the body.

I'm liking this colorway, too.  I might just have to do more hats from this yarn.

And finally, the man came and spread the dirt just yesterday, and the fire ants have already built a bed in it.

Man, I hate those little buggers.  As soon as everything has settled down a bit, I'm going to put the fire ant barrier granule things out.

All over the yard.

Now, if you'll excuse me, I have to get over my disappointment that the series Atlantis ended in a cliffhanger.  There was obviously intended to be a third season, but for some reason it never got made.  Funding must have gotten yanked.  It's BBC after all, shows made at taxpayer expense...

When I read "Atlantis" I thought of the old Syfy Series. I haven't thought of it in years. Guessing the BBC version is pretty good. :-)

It was good. I just wish they'd kept it going at least until they came up with a resolution to the story instead of suddenly ending it like that.
