I figured out why my yarn was pooling so weirdly. I'd gotten all the way to the crown decreases, and discovered I didn't have 80 stitches on the needles. I only had 79.

It took me several tries, but I finally found the dropped stitch...all the way back in the ribbing. Just past the ribbing, rather, but it had run through the ribbing. I thought for a minute about leaving it, but decided that my sailors weren't going to get a defective hat. I thought for a minute about trying to hook the dropped stitch up with a crochet hook, but that usually ends up being more trouble than it's worth, and messes with the tension.
After mulling it over for a moment, I did what any perfectionistic process knitter would do. I ripped the whole thing out and started over. It'll give me something to do while waiting for the weather to get here tonight.
And because life, the universe, and everything can't give us a moment to breathe, we get to do it all over again on Wednesday.
I know this is brief, but I need the screen to watch the weather. I've got Ryan on the TV, Reed on the Kindle, and I want to put Jaden on the computer, and probably Dave on the phone.
Sniff* My dad would be so proud...
