An F.O. n' Stuff

Here's the F.O.

You know, I sometimes see hat patterns with a 120 stitch cast on, in worsted weight.  This one is a 96 stitch cast on, and it's quite large.  I can only imagine how huge a 120 stitch cast on would be.

I don't have enough brown yarn to make another hat, so I think I might make a striped one with this yarn and the camo yarn I used for my last hat, which I just realized I never posted a photo of.  So here it is:

Brown ribbing, camo body, and brown crown.  I think that'll look fine.

Now, for the n'Stuff.

I did a good job by separating those spider lilies last year.  I'm going to have a buttload of them this year.  These are a patch in my front yard.

Here are the ones in my front flower bed.

And that's not even counting the ones in the back yard, and there will be a bunch of them, too.

Speaking of flower beds, this is all that remains of my poor Four O'Clocks.

I don't think I'm going to fool with them next year.   Whatever is eating them alive doesn't seem to be touching anything else, but these are pathetic looking.  Most of them are completely stripped, and only have one or two sad looking little leaves at the very top.  As much as I love the plant, it just isn't worth it.

I've been watching that new show on FOX called Sleepy Hollow.  It's pretty good.  I was talking about it at work today, and found a coworker who had never heard that story.  I promised to tell it to her tomorrow, so I need to reread it myself to get all the details down.

So, I'm off to do a little reading.

Later.

A Change Of Plans

Our pastor retired back in January, and this Sunday, we've got a potential new pastor coming to preach.  Cody wanted to come home for the weekend.  Beverly was going to go down and pick him up, but her schedule got pretty full pretty quickly.

When we found out the plant was going to be off today, we decided it would be better if I went and got him.  So, my plans for the day changed.  My plans to sit in front of the TV all day, I mean.  Oh, and go to Wal-mart and buy dog food and bread.

I have such an exciting life.

I drove down there and got him, and made him drive back.  Well, part way at least.  He hadn't slept well, and after I ate my baloney sandwich -- I packed a lunch, much cheaper than McDonald's-- and knit a little while, we traded places and I drove the rest of the way.

What did I knit on, you ask?  I'll tell you.  I cast on a new soldier hat.

This is a full sized hat, 96 stitch cast on, not a beanie.  The yarn is Cascade 220 Superwash, and the color is some sort of dull brownish soldiery type color.

When I got home, I discovered these beauties in my front yard.

Which reminded me that I'd never posted this photo of a bindweed bloom.

I took it about a month ago, but never got around to posting it.  I've been really lazy with my picture taking lately.

I need to do better.

Fernando

A couple of days ago, one of the Chats questions was "What is your favorite kind of nut?"  My answer was Group Leader Fernando.

We have a relationship that can best be described as...well...let's just say stormy

We fight a lot.  We always have.  Sixteen years ago when I was his inspector, we fought so much people started asking us if we were married.  Someone told me that again today.  "You two act just like an old married couple.  You really do."

I wouldn't know, not having ever been a part of an old married couple.

Today had been a very rough day at work, and we were both tired, irritable, and frustrated.  Naturally, we took it out on each other.  Kind of like an old married couple.

Or, so I've heard...

Right in the middle of our fussing, I walked around behind him, and I picked his pocket.  No, I didn't take his wallet, though I probably could have.  I took his cigarettes.  He should really quit smoking anyway.  I took his cigarettes, and the little blue box he keeps them in.  I stuck my hand down into his pocket and took his cigarettes.  And the little blue box he keeps them in.

He didn't even notice.

A couple of hours later, he was looking for them.  He asked me if I'd seen them.  I tried to play innocent, but he must have seen it in my face.

"You know something," he said.  "What did you do?"

"Me?" I asked innocently.  "Would I do something?"

Then I took his cigarettes and the little blue box he keeps them in out of my pocket and showed him.

"Where did you find them?" he asked.

"I took them out of your pocket," I said.

He couldn't believe that.

"You did not!"

"I did, too."

"How?"

"I reached my hand into your pocket and took them."

"You put your hand into my pocket?"

"Yes," I said.  "I pulled your pocket open, put my hand inside, and got your cigarettes.  I even caressed your behind while I was in there."

I didn't really.  I just told him that.

"Where was I?", he asked.  "What was I doing?  How did I not notice???"

He's such an easy mark.

I suppose if I ever quit my job, I can take up a life of petty crime.

Apparently, I'm a pretty good pickpocket.

Yeah...

And The Hits Just Keep On Coming

We are on 4 days again this week, and rumor has it we will be on 4 days for the rest of the year.  Time to tighten your belts and stock up on beans and rice.

In the meantime, I've been working on my dress.  I'm to the point of sewing in the zipper and hemming it, and it will be done.

But first, I need to hem my skirt.

I mean, it's been finished for a month, except for the hemming.  I guess I really need to get on it, huh?

Chats On The Farmhouse Porch

I walked out the door this morning to go to work, and the air was pink. Seriously. The air was pink.

I immediately thought of the old saying, "Red sky in the morning, sailor take warning."  Sure enough, by 8:30, the sky was so dark I thought it was night, and it was raining cows and elephants.

That's like cats and dogs, only bigger.

At least I knew why my hair was especially frizzy today.

By the time I got off of work, the rain had stopped, though the sky was still overcast, so maybe we'd better have our chat inside today.  OK?

Everyday Ruralty

1.  How well do you handle change?

Not well.  Not well at all.  I like sameness.  I don't like change.  I don't even like it when I run out of bananas and have to eat peaches for lunch.  I want everything to be the same.  Always.

2.  What did you have for breakfast this morning?

Oatmeal and milk, same as I do every morning.

3.  What's your favorite kind of nut? (Almond, pecan, peanut, walnut, cashews, macadamia, brazil, etc)

Group Leader Fernando.

No, seriously, walnuts.  I could live on walnuts.  I pretty much love all nuts, except peanuts-- which are technically a legume and not a nut.

4.  Do you have a pumpkin in your house or yard?

No.  I haven't done real pumpkins in a long time.  I have some fake pumpkins that I put in the living room.   I still haven't gotten my fall decorations out.  Maybe this weekend.

5.   Would you like it if I changed the format of these Chats? What do you think would be good? Would you enjoy fill in the blanks, one big topic to discuss, or something else?

It's your chat, you can do whatever you want.  As for me, refer to #1.

Well, it looks like the bottom is about to drop out again, so I'd better cut this week's chat short so you can all make it home before the storm hits again.  See you next week.

Space

Today, I'm going to write about something that has been bugging me for a quite a while.  I realize it's going to be a bit controversial, and that I'll probably get jumped all over for it, but I'm going to say it anyway.  It's a question I've been asking myself for years.

What is it about being in church that gives people the idea that they have the right to violate your personal space?  Why is it that the minute you walk into a church, people think they have the right to just run up and start putting their hands all over you?

I spend 8 hours a day (more or less) at work, and people don't put their hands on me like they do at church.

I go to Wal-mart, and random people don't run up and start grabbing and pawing at me like they do at church.

I go to the Downtown Jubilee, or Balloons Over Grenada, or the Memphis Zoo and nobody tries to tickle or pinch, or stroke, or fondle or grope me like they do at church.  OK, well, that's just the one disgusting creep, but still...

I can't stand it.  I don't even like it when people I like touch me.  I certainly don't like it when random people I barely know and certainly don't like -- I know, I know, how un-Christlike of me-- pat and stroke and drape themselves all over me.

But if I were to stand up and scream "KEEP YOUR HANDS OFF OF ME!!!!!", then I would be considered the bad guy.  So I have to sit there and just take it.  I plaster a fake smile on my face, and grit my teeth and put up with it even though inwardly I am seething.

I go home with my skin crawling, and feeling like I've been molested, and I skip church a lot.

And I hate that what should be the highlight of my week has become the thing I dread the most.

I know that the more outgoing, touchy-feely types among you will not understand why I feel this way.  But I do.  Now, if you will excuse me, I must go prepare to be lambasted.

Rylea

We have some new neighbors, and they have some dogs.

Their dogs and our dogs have been having some squabbles trying to establish territory, pecking order, and whatnot.  They'll eventually get used to each other, and may even become friends.  But for now, there's some bickering going on.

Last Friday, one of them bit Rylea.  It was just a small wound on her shoulder, so I cleaned it out with Betadine and Neosporin for a few days, and it seemed to be doing OK.  I noticed a little bit of puffiness around it, but just attributed it to the bite being a little swollen.

Well, yesterday evening, when I was feeding her supper, I noticed she had a great big blob on her shoulder, right where that bite was.    You can kind of see it in this somewhat grainy photo I took with my phone.  It's a big, puffy spot on her right shoulder, on the left side of the photo.

Since I was planning on taking Jesse to the vet today anyway for his heartworm preventative shot, I leashed Rylea up and took her in, too.

The vet said it was just fluid built up under her skin.  He called it a seroma.  Basically, when she got bitten, it pulled her skin away from her shoulder and that space filled up with fluid.  He drained it, and said it would probably fill back up, and that was OK.  All I had to do was drain it again.  It looks like a lot of blood, but it's mostly just fluid with a little bit of blood in it.

He did give her an antibiotic, because there is the possibility of an underlying infection, but said that she would be OK.

I came home, ate a little bit of lunch, then went to the Downtown Jubilee.  I didn't stay long.  I usually go early in the morning, but I'd forgotten about it, until I saw the sign on the way to the vet's office.  Everything seemed down this year.  There weren't that many craft booths.  Even the car show only had about 5 or 6 cars.  So, I came on home and watched football for the rest of the day.

The good news is, my spider lilies are starting to peek out of the ground.

That's a sure sign fall is here for real!

Arrr!!

It be September 19th, which means it be International Talk Like A Pirate Day.

In honor of the occasion, I wore my pirate shirt to work.

On our leak rate chart, I wrote "Today is International Talk Like A Pirate Day", then I started writing piratey phrases like

Avast ye scurvy bilge rats!

And Group Leader Fernando just shook his head.

And I wrote things like:

Hoist the Jolly Roger!
Weigh anchor!
Ahoy Matey!

And Group Leader Fernando just shook his head.

And I wrote more things like:

Shiver Me Timbers!
I'll be keelhauling ye!

And

Cry havoc and let slip the dogs of war!  Oh wait, that's Shakespeare.  Never mind.

And Group Leader Fernando just shook his head.

And I sang, and didn't do anything.

But I still haven't been to Boston in the fall.

Taking A Break

I think I'm going to take a little break from blogging.

I always said that when it became more of a chore than a joy, it was time to step back for a while.  It is to that point now.  I will probably be back.  I'm sure I will be back.  Writing is in my blood, and I can't give it up for good.

I just need not to feel pressured into doing it.

Chats On The Farmhouse Porch

I'm plumb tuckered today. I stayed up late last night to catch the season finale of Under The Dome. It was such a disappointment. I thought the show would be a mini-series, and everything would be resolved, but no. Apparently, they're going to drag the story out for a whole nother season.  I gave up on it.  I only stuck with it this long because I thought it would be over and done with after last night.  I won't be watching next season.

I also watched Sleepy Hollow.  I thought it was pretty good.  I hope they keep the same level of quality as the pilot, and it doesn't become just another dull crime drama.

And Sunday night I stayed up to watch the Seahawks/49ers game.  It was delayed an hour by rain.  Anyone remember when football was played by men?  Roger Goodell seems to be trying to turn it into a game for sissies.  Why?  We have soccer already.

So, that's two nights in a row I got limited sleep.  I'll be turning in early tonight.  Good Lord willing and the creek don't rise.

Well, enough banter.  Let's get to chattin'.

Everyday Ruralty

QUESTIONS

1.  What's the one thing you feel is the biggest waste of your time during an average week?

Work, no doubt.  Hands down, without question.  But, ya gotta pay the bills somehow.

2.  When was the last time you baked a pie?

Last Thanksgiving.  I always make a pumpkin pie and sometimes a sweet potato pie.  I usually make one for Christmas, too, but since it was just me this year, I didn't go all out on Christmas dinner.  I had leftovers from Thanksgiving.

3.  What do you want to spend time doing that you aren't right now?

Fishing.  Or target shooting.  There isn't a range here, though, so that kind of puts the damper on that.

4.  What do you do with old clothes?

I usually either turn them into cleaning rags, or just throw them out.  Being that I'm not at all fashion conscious, I wear stuff until it wears out.  Sometimes, though, I donate them, like a couple of years ago when that big tornado hit East Mississippi and Tuscaloosa.  Our church collected clothes to take to some of the hardest hit areas.  I sent quite a few up there.

5.  If we were having lunch on the porch today, what would you bring for the potluck styled lunch?

Probably my squash casserole, or sweet potato delight.  The recipes are linked in the right sidebar.   Just scroll down a bit.

That's it for this week. Tune in next week.

Same bat time, same bat channel.

Boy, I really do need some sleep!

Road Trip!

I needed some new work jeans, so I decided to drive up to Batesville to the outlet mall there and get me some.  Then, kind of a spur of the moment thing, I messaged Amy and asked if she wanted to meet up at Hank's.  I had a gift certificate that I needed to use, so it wasn't a stretch to drive the rest of the way to Southaven.

I felt kinda bad not asking Christi, but it really was a last minute thing.

I had a little trouble along the way.  I got halfway out the door when I realized I didn't have any shoes on.  Yeah, if I'd been going to Wal-mart, it would have been OK, but not so good going to Southaven.   I went back inside and found my shoes, and was halfway out the door again when I realized I didn't have my gift certificate to Hank's.  That was the main reason I was going up there, so I would have been upset if I'd gotten there and realized I didn't have it.  I went back inside and got the gift certificate, and finally was on my way.  I got about 20 miles up the road when I realized I didn't have a knitting project.  Sigh...

Anyway, I got there, and the first stop was Books -A- Million, where I bought this:

It is a cookie jar, and when you close the lid, it makes the TARDIS sound and the light lights up.  Naturally, I put some Jammie Dodgers into it.

Amy said she has one too, and her boys always seem to know when she's trying to sneak a cookie.

Fancy that.

I also picked up a few things for Cody's birthday, which is next month. Since he doesn't read my blog, I feel safe showing them here.

After a brief walk through of Sportsman's Outfitters, at which I didn't buy anything, I went on to Hank's, where I bought this yarn on clearance for half price.

And some more soldier hat yarn.

Since I had forgotten to bring a project with me, I bought some more circs and started this hat with this yarn, that I also bought.

And Amy and I talked, and visited, and laughed, and checked the scores of the ball games on our phones, and missed Kat and Christi, and ate delicious burgers at Huey's, and all too soon, it was time to come home.

And do laundry.  Sigh...

In the meantime, I watched lots of football and worked on the sock I'd intended to take to Southaven.

On a completely unrelated note- well maybe not so unrelated since I have mentioned football already-- here is an artsy fartsy progress photo of Kyle's blankie.

Steelers colors.

Right...

Oh Say Can You See?

It was on this date in 1814, that a young man named Francis Scott Key penned on the back of a letter the words that would eventually become our National Anthem. Most people don't realize that there is a second verse to this song.

Most people really don't realize that there are four verses to this song, and here they are:

O say can you see by the dawn's early light,
What so proudly we hailed at the twilight's last gleaming,
Whose broad stripes and bright stars through the perilous fight,
O'er the ramparts we watched, were so gallantly streaming?
And the rockets' red glare, the bombs bursting in air,
Gave proof through the night that our flag was still there;
O say does that star-spangled banner yet wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave?

On the shore dimly seen through the mists of the deep,
Where the foe's haughty host in dread silence reposes,
What is that which the breeze, o'er the towering steep,
As it fitfully blows, half conceals, half discloses?
Now it catches the gleam of the morning's first beam,
In full glory reflected now shines in the stream:
'Tis the star-spangled banner, O! long may it wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

And where is that band who so vauntingly swore
That the havoc of war and the battle's confusion,
A home and a country, should leave us no more?
Their blood has washed out their foul footsteps' pollution.
No refuge could save the hireling and slave
From the terror of flight, or the gloom of the grave:
And the star-spangled banner in triumph doth wave,
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave.

O thus be it ever, when freemen shall stand
Between their loved home and the war's desolation.
Blest with vict'ry and peace, may the Heav'n rescued land
Praise the Power that hath made and preserved us a nation!
Then conquer we must, when our cause it is just,
And this be our motto: "In God is our trust."
And the star-spangled banner in triumph shall wave
O'er the land of the free and the home of the brave!

Busy

Bought the new Star Trek movie.

Currently swooning at the sound of this man's voice.

Sigh, why can't men sound like that in real life?

Never Forget

Never ever forget.

And this gives me hope for our country:

Close to a million bikers rode to D.C. to ride in remembrance of those who died, and to uphold the Constitution.

But it isn't just the bikers that gives me hope. It's all the thousands of people lining the streets cheering them on.

It's the flags hanging from the overpasses.

It's the children waving, and the bikers waving back.

It's because these people, not the government, are all of us.

They are America.

Chats On The Farmhouse Porch

I'm a little late with my chat today.  I've been working on my dress.  I'm almost to the point of *shudder* setting in the sleeves.  I got a little confused, because there was an error in the instructions. Nowhere in there did it say to sew the side seams on the bodice.  I read through several times just to make sure I hadn't missed it.  Nope, not there.

So I'm just winging that part.  I know they have to be done before I can set the sleeves, so that's what I've just got through doing.  And I decided to take a bit of a break before tackling the sleeves.  Anyway, grab a mug of whatever beverage you choose and join me for the chat.

Everyday Ruralty

1.  Did you ever take piano lessons, as a child or adult?

Yes, I took one year of piano lessons when I was in the 5th grade.   My mother would pick me up after school and take me to the teacher's house, then I would walk home after the lesson.  Small town.  We could do that.  Anyway, she would park out in front of the elementary school, and I'd see her car and get into it and go to the teacher's house.  But, when I got into 6th grade, and up into Jr. High, my mother would park in the back of the school.  I would walk out the front and go on home, because I kept forgetting which day my lessons were on.  I hadn't gotten into that routine yet.   For some reason, that made her so mad that after a month she cancelled my piano lessons, and I never took them again.

2.  How many times do you eat out each month?

Maybe once.  I don't eat out very often at all.  I've got too much food in the house that I've already paid for.

3.  If you could snap you fingers and change on thing about your appearance, what would that be?  (Temporary or permanent)

I would make my hair less frizzy and more soft and shiny.  And it would be permanent.   I get kind of tired of battling the frizz all the time.

4.   Do you like looking at art or photography? Do you go to any place that displays them?

Yes, I do.  I went to the art museum down in Jackson last month.  I keep saying I'm going to go back to the one in Memphis soon, but once I get there, I always end up at the zoo instead.

5.  Do you have new things for your fall/ winter wardrobe?

Not as of yet.  If I ever get around to hemming that skirt, I will, but as a rule, I don't buy a lot of clothes.

Thanks for joining me for this week's chat.  I'm tired of doing that movie challenge meme, so you aren't going to get any more of it, unless I need a cop out post.

Now, back to the dreaded sleeves...

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

I stayed up late last night to watch the ball game.

HOW BOUT THEM COWBOYS!!!

So you don't get much of a post today. My brain is tired.  I'm just going to cop out and give you another movie post.

Day 09 - A movie that you know practically the whole script of

Well, there isn't really one that I know practically the whole script of any more.  When I was a teenager, though, my younger brother got Star Wars on vidotape (Beta-- that's how long ago it was) for Christmas one year.  He watched it so much that I had most of the script memorized.

I used to drive him nuts by quoting the line half a second before the actor in the movie did.  Boy, he hated that!

Now, there are several that I am very familiar with, but none that I can quote quite like that.  I just don't watch movies like I used to.

I'm more into watching old TV shows on Netflix.  Doctor Who, Buffy The Vampire Slayer, Firefly, Star Trek and the like.

So, that's it for today.

I'm tuckered.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Day 08 - A movie that makes you sad

I've got three I'm going to list, and let's see if you can pick out the common theme:

Just watch them, but let me give you a bit of advice.

Don't just have a tissue handy, or even a box of tissues.  I recommend you buy stock in the tissue company.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Day 07 - A movie that makes you happy

Hmmm, well, this could be any movie that I like, because watching a good movie does make me happy.  But for the sake of argument, I think I'm going to list

Secretariat

Based on the true story of probably the greatest race horse that ever lived-- and from a life long Man-O-War fan, that's saying a lot.

I watched Secretariat run when I was a kid.  I was only 8, so I didn't realize how close Penny Tweedy had come to losing him.  This movie filled in a lot of background, and I love how they quote the Bible in it.

It's a very good movie.  It's clean, so you can watch it with your kids, though they may get bored with the financial/business aspects of it.  They'll enjoy watching the horses and the racing, though.

Dear Married Man

I am very flattered by your attention to me, but here's the deal, if you really love me as much as you say you do, the first thing is...

Well, the first thing is, you shouldn't be loving me at all.  You should be loving your wife.  You did love her once, you know.  You loved her enough to marry her.  You loved her enough to commit the rest of your life to her.  She is still the same person you married, so you should be doing whatever it takes to make your marriage a strong and healthy one.  Yes, this may mean you have to change a few things.  It may mean that it's no longer all about you.  But this is what you need to do.

Secondly, if you really love me as much as you say you do, then you would treat me with dignity and respect.  If you really love me as much as you say you do, then you would care about my reputation, my honor, and my integrity.

If you really love me as much as you say you do, then you wouldn't be trying to make me the ho.

That's not love.  That's selfishness.

So, go home to your wife and work things out.

Thank you.

That is all.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Day 06 - Your favorite comedy movie

 The Terminal

Starring Tom Hanks and Catherine Zeta Jones.

I love this movie.  Tom Hanks plays a man named Victor Navorski from the fictional country of Krakosia.  He flies to New York on a sight seeing trip, and while he is in the air, there is a coup in his home country.  Because of this, he is stuck living in the airport for nearly a year while things are worked out.

During this year, he learns English, makes friends, falls in love, and reveals a deeper -- touching-- reason for his trip to America.

All I can say is, watch it.

In fact, I think I will.

Now.

Laters.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Well, it's only day 5, and I'm getting tired of this one already. Since I'll be watching football for the next four days, and since my internet is frustratingly spotty, I'll give you a couple more days before I sign off on it completely. But I don't expect to last the whole month. Be that as it may, here we go...

Day 05 - Your favorite drama movie

A Beautiful Mind

Starring Russell Crowe, Jennifer Connelly, Ed Harris, Paul Bettany, and a whole host of other well known actors, A Beautiful Mind is based on the true story of Dr. John Nash, a mathematical genius,  his descent into schizophrenia and subsequent climb out of it.

I love this movie.  Maybe it's because of my interest in psychology. Maybe it's because it is so well acted.  The movie draws you in, and kind of gives you an idea of what life is like for a schizophrenic.  As you get to the end of the movie, you discover that...well, I won't spoil it for you if you've never seen it.  I'll just let the psychiatrist explain:

Dr. Rosen: Imagine if you suddenly learned that the people, the places, the moments most important to you were not gone, not dead, but worse, had never been. What kind of hell would that be?

Just watch it.  At the end, like me, you will just say "wow".

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Day 04 - Your favorite horror movie

This is a tough one, because I'm not really into horror movies.  I saw one of the Friday The 13th movies, and thought it was the most idiotic thing I'd ever seen.

So, I guess for this category, I'll have to go with that good old classic Jaws.

I'd had a thing for sharks for a while, and for my 11th birthday, my mother took me to see this movie.

It was the highest grossing movie of it's time, and kept the record for several years.  And of course, it gave birth to one of the best movie lines ever, uttered by the police chief Martin Brody:

You're going to need a bigger boat.

Adventures!

But not really the kind you want to have.

A couple of weeks ago, I came out of church to a note on my Jimmy telling me that one of my tires was low.  I called James --because I know he has an air compressor-- and he came over and aired it up.

Yesterday when I got to work-- and more about that in a minute-- one of my coworkers told me that my tire was low again.  After work I checked it, and sure enough, it was nearly flat.

I went to Beverly and James' house, but he had just laid down to go back to sleep because he's working nights this week.  So I went to the gas station on the corner to air it up, then on in to Wal-Mart to get it fixed.

As soon as I pulled up and saw how many cars were there, I knew it would be a long wait.  But it couldn't be helped.  I had to get the tire fixed.

It was after 6 when I got home.  Tired, but the good news is, I got out of there without spending $100.  The bad news is, by the time I got home and settled in to watch the last few episodes of Grey's Anatomy, my internet kept dropping out.

So, I couldn't blog yesterday.  I'm going to do the Chat and the movie thing, and just retrodate them.  When you've got finished reading this one, do go back and check them out.  They'll be up in a bit.

Anyway, It's finally fall!  I don't care what the calendar says.  I don't care what the thermometer says.  Candy Corn is out.

And that means Fall.

While wandering around Wal-mart for two hours, I found this cute little Rattletrap with hearts on it.

It would be just perfect for someone's sweetheart, don't you think?  And I bought a new tacklebox.

My old one was full, and I had fishing lures scattered all over my kitchen.  Now they are all safely tucked away in here.

OK, I've got three more posts to catch up on, hopefully before my internet drops again, like it did about halfway through this one.

It's getting annoying.

Really.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

Day 03 - Your favorite action/adventure movie

This is a tough one.  I love the Indiana Jones movies.. well the first three anyway.  They should have stopped there.

I also love Top Gun, but I guess my favorite one has to be Air Force One. I just love everything about that movie.

I think I need to watch it again.  It makes me long for the days when we had a strong, capable leader in the White House.

September Thirty Day Movie Challenge

I had planned on getting up and going fishing this morning.  Instead, I woke up to the sound of thunder driving rain.  So, I spent the day catching up on season 9 of Grey's Anatomy, which is finally on Netflix.  I'll be all ready for season 10 to start in a couple of weeks.

Day 02 - The last movie you watched

The last movie I watched is an old one, but still a good one.  You've Got Mail, with Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan.  Free to stream with your Amazon Prime subscription.  It's not one of my favorites, but it is a cute movie and I enjoy watching it from time to time.

Guess what?  Today is your lucky day.  You get a two for one post.  I was reading some other blogs and found this meme.  I've seen it a couple of weeks now, but haven't really been interested in doing it.  Too many memes, you know.  However, I like the questions this week, so I think I'll answer them.

Acting Balanced

1. September is National Library Card month - when was the last time you checked a book out of the library?

Well, my library card expired in 2009, so I'd say it's been a while.  I have checked out books from the church library from time to time, but usually I just read what's already on my Kindle.

2. What are you most looking forward to about autumn?

Everything.  I love autumn.  I love the cooler weather, the first frost, warm days and crisp nights.  I love the colors, the smells, the holidays, and football.  Oh, by the way, Glade has a new candle out this year --Fall Hayride-- that smells so good.  I've got to go get another one.

3. Has the word Christmas entered your vocabulary yet?

Oh, yes.  I started thinking about Christmas months ago.  I even cast on an afghan that doesn't look like it's going to get finished in time now.  Well, maybe it can be for next year.

4. Do you care that Football season is starting?  Who is your team?

Do I care?  Do I care?  I've been counting down the days since Super Bowl Sunday.  I spent all day long Saturday watching college football.  My teams are the LSU Tigers, the Texas Longhorns, Dallas Cowboys, and whoever Jacob Hester plays for.

I'm going to opt out of adding a 5th question.  Instead I'll share with you one of my favorite songs honoring the working American.
